Appendix I: Calibration

Calibration of the supply needs to be performed on each of the different sections, positive 5V, positive 15V, negative 15V, positive variable, negative variable. Within each section, both the current and voltage inputs to the A/D are adjusted for maximum value and for zero offset. In addition the variable supplies have to be adjusted for their maximum output voltage prior to calibration of the A/D inputs.

Positive 5V Section

  6. Reinstall +5V fuse.
  7. Load supply 5W, 5W on output terminals.
  8. Adjust VR2 for 2.50V.
  9. Repeat steps 2 to 8 till adjustments are reached for both steps 4 and 8.

The first steps in the adjustments for the variable supplies is to insure that the Output voltage maximum is set to the correct value. To do this the following steps are taken:

  1. Set the input word to maximum value.
  2. Connect DVM from the output to ground.
  3. Adjust the trim pot for the R4 till the DVM reads 36.00V.

To calibrate the positive variable voltage monitoring section the following steps are taken:

  1. Connect DVM from pin 9 of A/D to ground.
  2. Set voltage to zero.
